Episode 11: Pitching fast balls

This week we had to pitch our ideas, so here is mine. My pitch is 3 minutes the rest is just some comedy.

  1. Ashwath -- I really enjoyed your video, especially the end.
But really, I think you did a great job articulating the significance of your research, which is something you had initially struggled with. I also really enjoyed your explanation of what a mutation actually means when you used your hands to help exemplify. I thought it was strong to use some sort of visual aid to illustrate.

It was WAYY to obvious, however, that you were reading.

  2. Hey Shwath,

Amazing video! I loved the "BTS" (I'm still not sure what you were trying to do there, but it was pure entertainment). I also really liked the hand visual, but maybe a slide or two with an image could've expounded upon that point. Your explanation of the importance of protein misfolding was really clear as well. I would've just liked a bit more connection between the diseases you mentioned and protein misfolding, in showing the audience how those specifically translate (pun intended) from the genotype to phenotypic effects.

Your style and delivery were solid, but like me, your eyes were slightly off from the camera as you read your script, so for future videos, either memorize your script or place it in a slightly better spot.

This feedback is a bit nitpicky, and there's no doubt that I'd invest my money right where I know the real action is at -- with my PSF 3rd floor buddy...

    Cheers,
    YP

  3. Hey Ashwath,

I really like how you started off establishing the significance by showing what diseases (like Parkinson's) this truly affects, because it really added humanity to your pretty scientific, factual project. I also thought you did a good job of explaining your project concisely and in simple terms that everyone could understand.

The only thing that could be improved was you reading off the script, which was obvious. Also, including some pictures or diagrams in-between to break the talking and explain the process less abstractly. Your method was a little confusing for me, because you used the word "computational analysis" but did not really explain what that entails other than using a super computer and that would be interesting to know.

Yeah, idk what you were doing with the behind the scenes like Mrs. Haag said, but um I showed a bunch of people (including Mr. Lester), so I guess that means I enjoyed it? But um, I'm also sick so maybe you aren't funny and the medicine is messing with me. I mean, you're great!

Good job!!! This is the only instance where I would trust you with my money!
